We can share some helps for those considering undertaking the process.

In the past 10 years, more and more construction has been going on in Valdez ...

Not much, however, is available for purchase today in the way of a new home at this time.

These were our thoughts going in....

Mostly building of custom homes or pre-sold homes.

There are 3 primary reasons it costs more to build in Valdez than more populated areas:

The high cost of concrete (We have only 1 company that supplies poured concrete - minimum load required; approx $155/yd)
Materials often have to be brought in, as we do not have a well stocked lumber yard. Even working with a big co can be a hassle. Often they send your materials 'piece-meal' per space available in trucks coming to Valdez instead of all at one time; a waste of time & a slow down for sure.
The lack of skilled labor.
