Boom Town, The SHOW

The history of Valdez, Alaska is so incredible that you'll want to experience it first hand with BOOM TOWN, The Show!

Valdez has an incredible and extremely colorful history!  The Show starts with the Alaska Gold Rush Days of 1898, when Valdez was the "All American Route to the Interior" (meaning there was no tromping through the backyard of our Canadian Neighbors).  The Gold Rush spurred the Military to build a road through some of the most unimaginable terrain on earth, build a telegraph line over mountains that today are impassable, and made others consider a railroad through snow that annually accumulates to over 35 feet.  World War II had a tremendous impact on this Northern most Ice-Free Port, as military supplies for bases, roads, communication systems and personnel were shipped through Valdez.

In 1964, the town site of Valdez was all but devastated, prompting the first re-location of an entire community in U.S. history.  Valdez was then chosen as the terminus of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline; the largest private construction project to ever be completed in recent history.  With that construction came the inevitable disaster.  The Exxon Valdez ran aground on Bligh Reef on March 24, 1989, spilling 11 million gallons of oil into Prince William Sound.

BOOM TOWN, The Show, takes you through all the booms and busts of this very unique and historic community; through humor, song and story.  Come join us for an entertaining evening where history is written, but theatre brings it alive!
