Note here that the January, 2003 MSDS on Simple Green states that the 2-butoxyethanol solvent isn't harmful once diluted...Think again. Approx 6% of mixture is 2-butoxyethanol... half strength that Inipol EAP 22 was. We are checking into the toxicity of Inipol EAP 22 which was 10-12% by weight of this surfactant... labeled a "bioremediation fertilizer for microbes" www.valdezlink.com/editor.htm shows what can happen - damaged blood just as the MSDS for 2-butoxyethanol declares. http://www.valdezlink.com/inipol/pages/2-butoxy_msds.htm http://www.state.nj.us/health/eoh/rtkweb/0275.pdf
A para-professional reviews:
"The only ingredient of Simple Green® with established exposure limits is undiluted 2-butoxyethanol (<6%) (ButylCellosolve; CAS No. 111-76-2): the OSHA PEL and ACGIH TLV is 25 ppm (skin). Note, however, that Butyl Cellosolve is only one of the raw material ingredients that undergo processing and dilution during the manufacture of Simple Green®. Upon completion of the manufacturing process, Simple Green® does not possess the occupational health risks associated with exposure to undiluted Butyl Cellosolve. Verification of this is contained in the independent test results detailed under "Toxicological Information" on Page 3 of this MSDS."
"It is interesting they use a toxic substance which they note as being so is changed in the processing into a non toxic substance.. It has acute mortality studies for oral and dermal dosage levels of grams per kilogram of body weight for rats with rat metabolisms. The results are listed under non-human toxicity. It is a serious error, per Parkinson's herbicide/pesticide findings years ago in the late 70's to early 80's of an approved herbicide? which caused immediate severe advanced Parkinson's and paralysis for primates, and was an approved environmental product which was based on rat metabolic toxicology studies as rats turned out to be totally immune to the same chemicals due to different metabolic pathways. Again they are quoting non primate studies and non human metabolic pathways to conclude it also applies to humans."
