ethylene oxide (CAS No. 75-21-8)   Fact Sheet *

ENVIRONMENTAL  DATA
The substance is harmful to aquatic organisms. *

formula for this?

C2H4O

says an advance chemical analyst

Ethylene is a reactive hydrocarbon because it has a double bond. Formula C2H4

I.e. between the two carbons.

HC=CH

It is sausage shaped.

This can join to another substance including two more hydrogen atoms

i.e. get C2H6

H2C-CH2

If it joins to oxygen, then the oxygen joins or attaches to both carbon atoms to form a triangular molecule.

    O

HC-CH

Cant show single arm from O atom to each C atom but you can imagine a triangle.

This molecule is very reactive now as this bonding is very strained.

Used as a building block for many other compounds.
